Portaits in Words
The book's ten units were each centered on an essay about a famous American. What gave the text its power, however, is that the essays were braced by a variety of learning aids. They included exercises and quizzes that focus on anticipation, organization, scanning for facts, checking for meaning, looking at ideas, recognizing points of view, and relating concepts. Different units also focused on usages. For each of the units, there are listening comprehension passages and activities.
