Some of the top photographers in the country were hired by the Dept. of Agriculture to produce a Bicentennial Year book documenting the American farmer. The contributor list is a who's who of magazine photographers of the time. Images by Charles O'Rear (one of the founders of Westlight) and Bill Marr leap off the pages. Minority farmers are poorly represented and the captions are hackneyed, which was typical of the times.
